Most figures belong to a scene or setting within the image as a whole, such as an banquet including two seated figures, a standing servant and a table. In order to express the coherence of these figurative and non-figurative elements we attribute them to one “thematic group”. We will have to amend this list when labelling seals from the third or the first millennium, but so far we differentiate between the following:
